Activision released Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It was one of the earlier attempts to bring a complex 3D-style sports game to a handheld, and it arrived during a time when developers were still figuring out how to translate console experiences to the small screen. The game stood out for trying to pack in so much of what made the PlayStation original compelling.
You control a professional skater, performing tricks and gathering collectibles across two-minute levels. The main goal is to achieve a set number of objectives, like achieving high scores, finding hidden tapes, or collecting letters that spell S-K-A-T-E. Signature mechanics include chaining tricks together for combos and using manuals to link grinds and air moves. The pacing is fast, and the isometric perspective makes judging some jumps difficult. It feels surprisingly complete for a portable adaptation, even if the controls take some getting used to.
