Game Overview

Skeleton Krew came out on the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Core Design. It was one of those late-era titles that tried to push the hardware with a darker, more violent theme, fitting right in with the edgier games that were becoming popular as the 16-bit generation was winding down. You don't hear about it much now, but it had a certain gritty charm that stood out from the platformers and fighters dominating the shelves.

You control a reanimated soldier, choosing from a small roster of undead operatives, each with a primary weapon like a shotgun or a chainsaw. Your job is to clear room after room of mutants and machines in a industrial complex, shooting everything that moves. The gameplay is methodical; you move screen by screen, clearing each area before proceeding, and you have to be careful with your aim and positioning because the screen can get overwhelmingly crowded with enemies and your own explosions. It's a tough game, demanding patience and good reflexes to manage the constant onslaught. Playing it feels like a tense, deliberate slog through a hostile factory where every corner could be your last.
