Small Soldiers on the Game Boy, released in 1998 by Tiertex, was one of many licensed games from that era. You play as either Archer or Chip Hazard, the leaders from the film, navigating through a suburban house that has become a warzone.
You control your chosen commander through a series of side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen to hunt down the enemy leader. The game mixes exploration with simple combat; you punch or kick enemy soldiers, and later levels introduce a bow for Archer. The main objective is to find and defeat the rival faction's boss, which involves searching rooms, avoiding hazards, and battling through patrols. The pacing is deliberate, with some backtracking, and the difficulty can feel uneven, especially with limited offensive options early on. It feels like a cautious, methodical crawl through a familiar space turned hostile.
