Solar Jetman came out in 1991 for the NES, developed by Rare. It was part of that era where games were really starting to experiment with physics and open level design, even on a console known for simpler platformers. You don't see many games like it, even now.

You control a small astronaut in a fragile, inertia-heavy pod, tasked with exploring planets to recover pieces of the Golden Warpship. The core gameplay involves navigating treacherous caves with realistic gravity, towing heavy fuel canisters and ship parts back to your mothership while dodging enemies and environmental hazards. It's brutally difficult; one wrong move sends your pod spinning into a wall, and you have to manage both fuel and hull integrity on every trip. Successfully docking a valuable artifact after a tense, careful flight is a huge relief.
