You start with a sword, sure, but the real hook is recruiting creatures with different abilities—some let you talk to monsters (turns out they’re not all evil), others help you glide or smash barriers. The first hour feels familiar—cut grass, poke at pots—but then you realize you’re negotiating with a wolf instead of fighting it, and suddenly the whole vibe shifts.
It’s janky in that early-90s way (good luck with the hit detection), but there’s something refreshing about a game where "enemies" actually have personalities. Also, the soundtrack slaps. If you’ve burned through Link to the Past too many times, this is a solid palate cleanser.
