Game Overview

Son Son (Japan) is one of those weird, wonderful NES games that makes you go, "Wait, I'm playing as a monkey with fireballs?" It's a chaotic little platformer-shooter hybrid where you bounce between floating islands, blasting everything from flying pigs to... whatever those squid things are supposed to be.

The controls are dead simple—jump and shoot—but the screen scrolls in all directions, so you're constantly scrambling to avoid enemies while picking off targets. It's got that classic arcade feel where you'll die a lot at first, then suddenly hit a groove where everything clicks. The music's oddly catchy too, in that tinny NES way.

Don't expect deep strategy here. It's pure 80s Capcom weirdness, complete with bright colors and enemies that look like they escaped from a kid's doodle notebook. I still can't decide if the dragon boss is cool or just hilariously janky. Either way, it's a great 15-minute time capsule of when games didn't take themselves too seriously.
