Game Overview

Konami released Soreike! Amida-kun for the Game Boy in 1991, a time when portable games often relied on clever, simple ideas rather than big stories or complex graphics. It fits right in with that era's experimental spirit, offering a puzzle experience built around drawing lines on the screen.

You control a small monk who must climb upward through single-screen temple stages. Your main tool is a stylus, represented by the cursor, which you use to draw Amida lines (vertical paths with horizontal rungs) that the monk will automatically climb. The challenge comes from navigating around hazards like spikes, gaps, and enemies; if your drawn path touches any danger, the monk falls and you must try again. The game progresses screen by screen, each one a self-contained puzzle requiring spatial planning and quick redrawing. It feels like a race between your thinking and the clock, creating a tense but satisfying loop of trial and error until your route finally holds.
