You pick a survivor with unique skills, then crawl through a sinking upside-down cruise ship—either drag panicky strangers to safety or ditch them when things get dicey. Every room’s a new disaster, and the clock’s ticking.

SOS came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Human Entertainment. It was part of that mid-90s wave of games that tried to do something different with the hardware, moving away from pure action or platforming to experiment with tension and consequence. It didn't have the flash of a big franchise title, but it carved out its own quiet, stressful corner.
You control one of several selectable characters, each with slight variations in speed and strength, as you attempt to escape a luxury ocean liner that is capsizing and flooding. The main objective is to navigate the tilting, maze-like ship, find other survivors, and guide them to rescue helicopters within a strict 60-minute time limit. Signature mechanics include screen-by-screen exploration of the deteriorating vessel, managing panicked NPCs who can refuse to follow or get stuck, and solving simple environmental puzzles like moving debris or unlocking doors. The pacing is relentless; water rises, fires spread, and structural collapses block paths, forcing constant reassessment of your route. It feels like a tense, claustrophobic race where every saved person is a hard-won victory.
