Punch aliens to a funky beat as Ulala, matching their dance moves with pixel-perfect timing—it’s ridiculous, but nailing those combos feels stupidly satisfying. The chiptune soundtrack will haunt your brain for days.

Game Overview

I picked up Space Channel 5: Ulala's Cosmic Attack for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a time when licensed ports and quirky Japanese titles were still finding their way to the handheld. THQ published this one, a condensed version of the Dreamcast rhythm game that tried to capture its style on a much smaller screen. It was a strange, colorful little thing to have in your pocket, a bit of Sega's oddball charm squeezed into a cartridge.

You control Ulala, an intergalactic reporter who fights aliens by copying their dance moves. The main objective is to clear each screen of enemies by matching their directional commands with the A and B buttons in time to the music. The signature mechanics are all about rhythm and memory; you watch the aliens perform a sequence, then you input that same sequence perfectly. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp attention and good timing. It feels like a frantic, musical puzzle where your fingers are dancing along with the action.
