Space Rogue is one of those Amiga games that feels like three genres smashed together—and somehow it works. You start off as the lone survivor of a trading ship ambushed by raiders, swearing revenge, but honestly? I spent the first hour just figuring out how to not crash in Newtonian flight mode (turns out space physics are hard).

The game keeps switching perspectives on you—one minute you're dodging asteroids in a wireframe 3D tunnel during hyperspace jumps, the next you're haggling over cargo prices at some grimy spaceport. The trading feels satisfyingly risky, especially when you gamble on a sketchy deal only to get jumped by pirates on the way to deliver. And yeah, your reputation actually matters—help the wrong faction, and suddenly every Imperial patrol shoots on sight.

What surprised me was how much the little details pulled me in. Like how faster hyperspace travel saves your ship’s armor, or how sneaking past patrols with a cloaking device feels legitimately tense. The main story’s there if you want it, but half the fun is getting sidetracked smuggling alien artifacts while upgrading your ship piece by piece. Just don’t expect the NPC conversations to win awards—most of them boil down to "give me thing, get reward." Still, for an Amiga title, it’s weirdly ambitious.

If you can handle the jank of early 3D space combat and some clunky UI, there’s a lot to love here. Just maybe practice flying before picking fights with the Manchi.
