Spartan X 2 [hFFE] is a side-scrolling beat 'em up on the NES, a sequel that tries to stick closer to the movie it's based on. You play as Thomas, a kung-fu guy running through Barcelona, punching and kicking your way to rescue Silvia from Mr. X.
The first level throws you right into it—narrow hallways, enemies swarming from both sides, and this weird tension where you're either mashing buttons or carefully timing kicks. The controls are stiff, like most NES fighters, but there's something satisfying about knocking thugs off platforms.
Between levels, you get these odd computer-screen cutscenes where Thomas talks to other characters. They're clunky, but they give the game a little more personality than the first Spartan X. The bosses are the highlight—big, screen-filling dudes that actually make you think about patterns instead of just spamming attacks.
It's not deep, but Spartan X 2 [hFFE] has that old-school arcade feel where you just keep pushing forward, one punch at a time.
