Game Overview

Separation Anxiety came out for the Sega Genesis in 1995, developed by Software Creations and published by Acclaim. It was one of those mid-90s beat 'em ups that felt right at home on the console, a straightforward action game built for co-op sessions and quick bursts of play. As a sequel to Maximum Carnage, it continued the symbiote-heavy storyline without requiring much setup, just more wall-crawling and villain-punching.

You control either Spider-Man or Venom, moving screen by screen to clear out symbiote-infected enemies and larger boss mutants. The main goal is straightforward: fight through each stage, rescue hostages, and eventually take down the source of the chaos. Signature mechanics include the ability to call in assist attacks from other Marvel heroes like Captain America or Iron Man, and for Venom, using his symbiote tendrils to grab and throw enemies from a distance. The pacing is fast, the difficulty can spike with crowded enemy groups, but it feels satisfying to plow through thugs with exaggerated comic-book violence.
