SpongeBob SquarePants: SuperSponge on the GBA is basically the underwater, slightly chaotic little brother of the PlayStation version. You’re on a mission to score an autograph from Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy for Patrick’s birthday—but of course, they’ve got a laundry list of weird errands first. Typical Bikini Bottom logic.
It’s a side-scroller where you slap jellyfish with SpongeBob’s ridiculous oversized glove (which never gets old), collect spatulas like they’re gold, and hoard fast food to stay alive—because apparently, a milkshake can fix anything. There’s also this one level in Sandy’s tree dome where you’re constantly racing to splash water on yourself before you shrivel up like a forgotten sponge under the sink. Stressful, but weirdly fun.
The weapons are gloriously dumb—like a jelly gun that shoots actual jellyfish, or a coral blower that’s exactly as impractical as it sounds. And yes, extra lives come in the form of underwear. No further questions. It’s exactly the kind of nonsense you’d expect from a SpongeBob game, and that’s why it works.
