Spy vs Spy: Operation Boobytrap came out for the Game Boy in 1992, published by Kemco. It was part of that wave of portable games that tried to capture the feel of a console experience, but with simpler graphics and shorter play sessions. The game is based on the MAD Magazine characters, and it translates their antagonistic humor into a competitive format.
You control either the Black Spy or the White Spy, moving through a multi-room office to find and collect secret documents before your rival does. Each screen is a self-contained area where you can set traps like bombs or falling buckets, or use items you find to hinder the other player. The main challenge comes from avoiding your opponent's traps while trying to outmaneuver them in real time. The pacing is frantic, especially in two-player mode where both spies share the same system and screen. It feels like a tense game of cat and mouse where every move could spring a disastrous surprise.
