Sqoon came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986, developed by Irem. You pilot a small, pink submarine across a series of single-screen aquatic stages. Your goal is to shoot alien bases to rescue humans trapped inside, then ferry them to the safety of a waiting ship. The core loop involves careful aiming to destroy enemy structures while dodging a relentless onslaught of foes; you also have to physically bump into the freed survivors to pick them up, which adds a layer of clunky risk to every rescue. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty escalates quickly into pure, unforgiving chaos. It feels like managing a hectic, underwater disaster zone where every small victory is hard-won.
