Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth is one of those N64 shooters that feels like it belongs in an arcade—fast, punishing, and weirdly satisfying once you get the hang of it. You’re basically Earth’s last hope against an alien invasion, piloting a ship that explodes if anything so much as grazes it (yep, one hit and you’re done). The controls are tight, though, and swapping between different ships keeps things interesting—some are faster but weaker, others pack serious firepower but handle like a brick.
The levels are short bursts of chaos, maybe 3-5 minutes each if you don’t die immediately, and every one ends with a boss that’ll test your reflexes. There’s no save feature, just these absurdly long passwords you’ll have to jot down if you want to pick up where you left off. And if you’re paying attention, you might find hidden paths by blasting random walls—kinda trial-and-error, but it adds a little extra something when you stumble onto one.
It’s not the deepest shooter out there, but if you miss the days of quarter-munching arcade games, this one’s got that same brutal charm.
