I first played The Story of Thor on the Sega Genesis back in 1994. It was developed by Ancient and published by Sega, and it stood out among action RPGs on the system for its detailed visuals and ambitious scope. You control Prince Ali, a young hero who must rescue his sister and reclaim the kingdom from an evil sorcerer. The game plays out across interconnected screens, with plenty of sword swinging and careful use of a magical armlet that summons elemental spirits. Fire spirits attack enemies, water spirits help solve environmental puzzles, and you'll need both to navigate dungeons and overworld areas. The pacing is deliberate, and some sections can be quite challenging, especially when managing limited resources. What sticks with me is how it feels to explore; each new area brings a mix of tension and curiosity, and the spirit mechanics add a thoughtful layer to every encounter.
