Game Overview

Man, Story of Thor (or Beyond Oasis if you're not playing the Japanese version) is one of those Genesis games that just sticks with you. You start as Prince Ali, this kid with a golden armlet that lets him summon elemental spirits—fire, water, wind, the whole crew. At first, you're just slashing through basic enemies, but then you realize you can combo the spirits' powers in weird ways, like using water to put out fires blocking your path or blasting lightning into pools to fry groups of enemies.

The world feels surprisingly big for a 16-bit game—every screen has little secrets tucked away, and the dungeons actually make you think instead of just being hack-and-slash fests. The pixel art? Gorgeous. The way the water spirit shimmers or how fire lights up dark caves still looks great today. It's got that classic Zelda vibe but with Sega's faster, punchier combat.

Honestly, it's wild this wasn't more popular back in the day. If you dig action-RPGs with actual exploration and not just grinding, give it a shot. Just don't sleep on the spirit combos—they're the real game-changer.
