I picked up Street Smart for the Sega Genesis back in 1991, a game published by SNK that slipped into the library alongside more polished brawlers of the era. You control a martial artist named Karate Man, moving through a series of one-on-one fights in a ring surrounded by a pixelated crowd. The main goal is to win the tournament by knocking out each opponent, using a mix of punches, kicks, and throws. Between matches, you can bet your prize money on mini-games to temporarily boost your strength or speed, a gamble that often feels necessary given how quickly the computer adapts to your tactics. The pacing is uneven; some fights drag, others end in seconds if you mistime a move. It feels janky and unforgiving, but there's a strange satisfaction in landing that one clean hit that turns the match.
