Super Army War came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, developed by Neko Entertainment. It was part of that wave of portable games that tried to capture the feel of older arcade shooters, but with a little more tactical depth. The GBA had plenty of action titles, but this one stood out for its focus on combined arms and direct control over different units.
You command helicopters and fighter jets, targeting enemy tanks and infantry while protecting your own ground forces from elimination. The main goal is to clear each screen of enemies before advancing; one misstep can lead to your entire squad being overrun. Signature mechanics include switching between air units on the fly, managing limited ammunition, and navigating tight, hazard filled maps. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty is unforgiving, especially when bullets and explosions fill the screen. It feels chaotic and demanding, but also satisfying when you finally secure a hard won victory.
