Play Super Cars Online
NES top-down racer with upgradeable cars, weapons, and a haggling mechanic that actually matters. Missiles are fun, but don't neglect your engine.
Super Cars came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, published by Electro Brain. It was a different kind of racing game for the platform, focusing more on strategy and resource management than pure speed. While other racers had you just trying to finish first, this one made you think about money and upgrades just as much as the track itself.
You control a driver competing in a series of high-stakes races, but the real game happens between events. You use your winnings to haggle for better engines, tires, and weapons like missiles and mines from a shady dealer. The actual races are viewed from above, and you need to balance attacking rivals with managing your car's durability and fuel. It's a surprisingly tense game, because a bad purchase or a wrecked car can end your season early. The whole experience feels like a calculated risk, where every dollar spent and every opponent sabotaged brings you closer to the championship, or total bankruptcy.
