Play Super Hunchback (Japan) Online
Swinging from ropes and dodging arrows as Quasimodo feels ridiculous in the best way—those pixel-perfect jumps between crumbling towers will have you sweating. Frollo’s smug face is pure motivation to chuck him off a bell tower.

I picked up Super Hunchback for the Game Boy back in 1992, a time when handheld games were often scaled-down versions of console hits. Ocean Software published this one, and it stood out for trying something different, even if it wasn't a blockbuster. It's based on The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but it plays more like a quirky action platformer than a straight adaptation.
You control Quasimodo, climbing ropes, leaping across gaps, and fighting guards with a whip. The goal is to rescue Esmeralda from the clutches of Judge Frollo, moving screen by screen through the cathedral and city streets. Key mechanics include swinging on ropes to cross large spaces and timing your attacks to avoid enemy projectiles. The pacing is brisk, and some sections demand precise jumps, making it tougher than it first appears. It feels tense and a little frantic, especially when you're low on health and scrambling for a checkpoint.
