Game Overview
Super Hydlide is one of those weird, rough-around-the-edges JRPGs from the late '80s that somehow made it to the Genesis. You start off picking from four classes—fighter, priest, thief, or monk—and immediately notice the weight system (yes, your character gets slower if you carry too much junk). The overworld feels huge for its time, but good luck figuring out where to go without a guide—half the NPCs speak in cryptic riddles.
Combat's real-time but clunky, with this odd morality system where killing certain enemies lowers your "virtue." I remember grinding slimes near the starting town just to afford a decent sword, only to get wrecked by the first boss. It's janky, but there's something charming about its ambition. Definitely an acquired taste.
