Super Monkey Ball Jr. takes the wobbly, tilt-the-world chaos of the GameCube original and squeezes it into the GBA surprisingly well. You’re still rolling a monkey trapped in a plastic ball through obstacle courses, but now you’re nudging the entire stage instead—like some kind of stressed-out god trying to herd a drunk hamster. The physics feel just unpredictable enough to make even simple ramps exciting, and some later stages get properly sadistic with narrow paths and moving platforms.
Single-player’s got 60+ levels, but the real fun kicks in when you rope in friends for the mini-games. Monkey Fight is basically sumo wrestling with balls, and the golf mode has this weirdly satisfying clunk when you nail a shot. Just don’t expect to unlock everything fast—some of those later challenges take serious patience (or a very forgiving friend group).
It’s not perfect—the camera occasionally fights you—but for a portable version, it nails the weird charm of watching a tiny primate yeet itself into the void.
