Game Overview

Super Robot Taisen on the Game Boy is one of those games that makes you wish the screen was just a little bigger—but somehow, it still works. You start off picking your squad from a wild mix of classic anime mechs, and yeah, of course I went straight for Mazinger Z first. The battles play out on these tight little grids where positioning actually matters—get cocky, and some grunt in a Zaku will snipe your favorite pilot from halfway across the map.

What’s cool is how the robots interact. Some of them have combo attacks if you position them right, and watching Getter Robo and a Gundam team up never gets old. The story’s full of cheesy anime drama (in a good way), and the pixel art somehow makes a tiny grayscale Gundam look legitimately menacing. Just don’t expect to breeze through—some of those later missions will wreck you if you don’t plan ahead. Still one of the best ways to kill a Game Boy battery.
