Game Overview

Super Robot Taisen came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Banpresto. It was one of the earlier tactical RPGs on the system, a time when portable games were often simpler, but this one tried to pack a lot into those little cartridges. You got a mix of famous robots from different anime series, all thrown into one big, complicated story.

You control a squad of mechs, each with unique weapons and upgrade paths, moving them on a grid map to complete scenario objectives. The main goal is to defeat enemy units or sometimes protect specific allies across turn based battles. Key mechanics include managing energy for powerful attacks, utilizing terrain for defense, and occasionally persuading enemy pilots to join your side. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and mistakes in positioning can lead to a tough, sometimes frustrating reset. It feels like solving a violent, mechanical puzzle where every move counts.
