Game Overview
So, Sweet Home on the NES—this one's a weird little gem. You control five people who wander into a creepy mansion to photograph some frescoes, because apparently that's what counts as a good idea in horror games. Of course, the place is haunted, doors slam shut behind them, and now they're stuck trying not to die while also figuring out what happened to the last group of idiots who tried this.
It plays like an RPG but with this constant low-level dread—random turn-based battles, yeah, but also limited healing and puzzles that force you to split the team up. Each character has their own weirdly specific tool: one carries a vacuum cleaner (for... dust?), another has a lighter, one’s the lockpick expert. You’ll constantly be shuffling who’s in your active party based on whether you need to burn cobwebs or pry open a door. It’s janky, tense, and way ahead of its time for 1989.
