Game Overview

Taboo: The Sixth Sense came out on the NES in 1989, developed by Rare and published by Tradewest. It was one of those oddball titles that felt out of place on a console known for platformers and action games, a strange little piece of software that leaned into the supernatural when most games were about jumping on turtles or shooting aliens.

You don't control a character so much as you navigate a series of static screens, using tarot cards and a crystal ball to answer questions and perform readings. The main objective is to give accurate fortunes, interpreting symbols and card positions to progress. The pacing is slow, almost meditative, and the difficulty comes from deciphering the often cryptic clues without much guidance. It feels less like playing a game and more like participating in a quiet, slightly unnerving ritual.
