I remember playing The Death and Return of Superman on the Sega Genesis back in 1994. It was developed by Blizzard Entertainment, which was a surprise to me at the time since I mostly knew them for PC games. This was a side-scrolling beat 'em up, a genre that was everywhere on the Genesis, but it stood out because it was based on that huge comic book event.

You control Superman, or rather, four different characters who take up the mantle after he falls. You punch, kick, and use special screen-clearing attacks to fight through endless thugs and super-villains across the streets of Metropolis. The main objective is to stop Doomsday and the other forces causing chaos. Signature mechanics include switching between the four replacement heroes, each with unique movesets, and using a powerful super move that drains your health when activated. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be brutal, especially during some of the boss fights. It feels like a desperate, non-stop brawl where you're just trying to hold the city together.
