Play The Death and Return of Superman on Snes Online
Punch through waves of goons as classic Superman until Doomsday wrecks you, then switch between four weird replacements—Steel hits hard but moves slow, Cyborg’s got freaky tentacle arms, and Superboy’s all flips and flash.

I remember playing The Death and Return of Superman on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1994. It was developed by Blizzard Entertainment, which was a bit of a surprise since they were more known for their PC games at the time. This was during the peak of side-scrolling beat 'em ups on the SNES, and it fit right in with that style, capitalizing on the massive comic book event.
You control Superman through most of the game, punching and flying through screen after screen of Intergang thugs and mutated creatures. The main goal is straightforward: fight your way to the right until you reach a boss. After the infamous Doomsday fight, you get to play as four different replacement heroes, each with unique moves; Steel swings a massive hammer but is slow, Cyborg uses extendable arms for longer reach, and Superboy relies on acrobatic kicks. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty can be punishing, especially with some cheap enemy attacks. It feels like a chaotic, sometimes frustrating brawl that captures the messiness of the comics' storyline.
