It was one of many licensed games from that era, trying to capture the chaotic spirit of the cartoon within the limits of 16-bit hardware. You either play as Itchy, the mouse, or Scratchy, the cat, each with their own set of stages and objectives.
You move through side-scrolling levels, avoiding traps like falling anvils and swinging mallets while attacking enemies with weapons such as hammers and bombs. The main goal is to reach the end of each stage, though some levels require you to defeat a certain number of foes or survive for a set amount of time. The action is fast and unforgiving, with enemies swarming and hazards appearing with little warning. Playing it feels like trying to survive a chaotic cartoon come to life, where every step could lead to a ridiculous, painful end.
