Play The Misadventures of Flink Online
Guide Flink through themed worlds, battle quirky enemies with your sword, collect musical notes, and solve puzzles using a bubble wand and minecarts in this quirky platformer.
I first played The Misadventures of Flink on the Sega Genesis back in 1994. It was developed by Psygnosis, a company better known for its slick Amiga and PC titles, so seeing their name on a 16-bit console platformer was a bit of a surprise. The game arrived late in the Genesis lifecycle, a time when developers were really pushing the hardware to its limits with detailed graphics and complex level design.
You control Flink, a small, green, elven character on a quest to rescue children kidnapped by an evil witch. The gameplay involves moving screen by screen through a variety of themed worlds, using your sword to attack strange enemies and collecting special musical notes to progress. A couple of its signature mechanics include riding minecarts on tracks and using a bubble wand to create temporary platforms, which adds a nice puzzle element to the exploration. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be unforgiving, especially with some precise platforming required. It feels like a strange, ambitious, and sometimes frustrating trip through a very particular kind of cartoon nightmare.
