Play The Ottifants Online
Guide Bruno the elephant through quirky levels, shoot jelly babies, suck up platforms, dodge enemies, and rescue your dad from aliens in this offbeat platformer.
The Ottifants came out on the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Graftgold. It was one of those platformers that felt a little different from the usual mascot fare, based on a German comic strip that wasn't widely known elsewhere. You played as a small elephant named Bruno, and the whole thing had this odd, almost surreal energy that set it apart from the more straightforward Sonic or Mario games of the time.
You control Bruno, who attacks by shooting jelly babies from his trunk and can also suck up certain platforms with a vacuum function to create new paths or remove obstacles. The goal is to rescue your father from aliens, which involves moving through themed levels, avoiding enemies, and collecting items. The level design is nonlinear in places, encouraging some exploration, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly with tricky enemy placements and platforming sections. It feels chaotic and a little unpredictable, but there's a strange charm in figuring out how to use your trunk in both offensive and utilitarian ways.
