Play The Pagemaster Online
Explore themed worlds, collect pages, jump on enemies, and wield a sword to escape the library in The Pagemaster on Sega Genesis.
I picked up The Pagemaster for the Sega Genesis back in 1994, a game published by Fox Video Games. It came out during a time when licensed platformers were everywhere, and this one was based on the animated movie about a kid who gets lost in a library. It's not one of the heavy hitters from that era, but it has its own quiet charm if you're into that sort of thing.
You control Richard Tyler, a timid boy who explores different literary genres represented as themed worlds. The main goal is to find your way out of the library by collecting pages scattered across each area. You move screen by screen, jumping on enemies like living books or dodging obstacles, and you use a sword in some sections to cut ropes or attack foes. The pacing is methodical, almost cautious, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. Playing it feels like flipping through an old storybook where some pages are more exciting than others.
