The Pagemaster came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Probe Entertainment. You control Richard Tyler, a kid who gets pulled into a library and transformed into a cartoon hero. The goal is to explore three distinct literary worlds (Adventure, Horror, Fantasy) to collect missing pages from a magical book. Gameplay involves screen-by-screen exploration, using a sword for combat against pirates and monsters, and casting spells you find to solve puzzles or defeat certain enemies. The jumping can feel a bit stiff, and some enemy patterns demand precise timing, making certain sections tougher than they look. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes clunky quest through a living storybook.
