Game Overview

ThunderCats on the Amiga came out in 1987, published by Elite Systems. It was one of those early side-scrolling action games that tried to capture the feel of the cartoon, back when licensed games were just starting to find their footing on home computers. You played as Lion-O, moving through a series of levels that took you from the forests of Third Earth to the depths of Mumm-Ra’s pyramid.

You control Lion-O with his Sword of Omens, slashing through enemies like Slithe and the Mutants. The main goal is to rescue your fellow ThunderCats, who are scattered and imprisoned. You break open containers to find health or weapon upgrades, and some later stages offer branching paths that change up the route. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all sides, and the difficulty can be punishing if you’re not careful with your jumps and attacks. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes frustrating, but earnest attempt to bring the show’s action to the screen.
