Thundercats on the DS is basically a love letter to the old-school cartoon—side-scrolling action where you slash your way through waves of lizard soldiers as Lion-O. Starts off with what should be a victory parade turning into a disaster when the lizards invade Thundera, and wouldn’t you know it, one of your own generals betrays you. Classic.
You’ve got your Sword of Omens, some basic combos, and a jump attack that feels way too satisfying when you land it just right. The lizards come at you with everything—some rush in with claws, others hang back throwing spears—and yeah, you’ll be grabbing every piece of roast chicken (or whatever that floating food is) to stay alive. Boss fights are where it gets real, though. That’s when you’ll be glad you can call in the other Thundercats for backup, even if it’s just for a quick assist.
It’s not the deepest hack-and-slash out there, but if you grew up with the show, swinging that sword through Third Earth hits just right.
