I picked up the Thundercats game for Nintendo DS back in 2012, developed by Aspect Co. It was a time when licensed games were still a common sight on the handheld, and this one aimed to bring the classic cartoon to the small screen. It felt like a product of its era, straightforward and built for quick sessions.
You control Lion-O, moving through side-scrolling levels, slashing enemies with the Sword of Omens. The main goal is to fight through Mumm-Ra's forces across various worlds. Key mechanics include using the touch screen to activate special attacks and swapping between Lion-O and other Thundercats like Tygra for specific puzzles. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. It feels like a simple, action-focused romp that relies heavily on nostalgia for its source material.
