Bandai released Toxic Crusaders on the Game Boy in 1992, a time when licensed games based on cartoons were common and often hit or miss. It's a side-scrolling beat 'em up that lets you play as Toxie or one of his mutant friends, trying to clean up the filth of Tromaville one thug at a time.
You control your chosen hero, moving from left to right through industrial and sewer-themed stages, punching and kicking an endless supply of Dr. Killemoff's lackeys. Your main goal is to reach the end of each level and defeat the boss waiting there. You can pick up weapons like a mop or a radioactive bow to attack from a distance, and you occasionally shoot mutant rats that pop out of pipes. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can feel unforgiving with limited continues. It feels like a straightforward, slightly clunky brawl that captures the show's messy charm.
