Game Overview

Tsume Shougi - Mondai Teikyou Shougi Sekai came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Yojigen. It was part of a wave of portable puzzle games that made good use of the handheld's pick-up-and-play nature, offering a focused, no-frills approach to shogi problem solving.

You are presented with a series of tsumeshogi puzzles, each one a prearranged board where you must find the correct sequence of moves to checkmate the opponent's king. The game challenges you to think several moves ahead, using pieces like the knight, which moves in an L-shape, or the lance, which attacks straight forward. The pacing is deliberate, and some puzzles demand real patience. It feels satisfying to finally crack a tough one after turning it over in your head.
