1989 Amiga action game. High-speed 3D shoot-'em-up with full movement control. Dodge barriers, evade enemy fire, collect energy blocks. Features radar for obstacle detection and polygonal/wireframe visual options.
Twylyte came out on the Amiga in 1989 from Wicked Software, a fast-paced shooter that stood out in an era full of platformers and arcade conversions. It was one of those games that really showed off what the machine could do with 3D visuals, even if they were just wireframes and flat polygons. You didn't see many games moving that fast or giving you that much freedom to fly around back then.
You pilot a small ship through twisting, abstract tunnels, constantly dodging barriers and enemy fire while collecting energy blocks to keep your shields up. The main goal is survival, navigating screen by screen through increasingly complex mazes. Two key mechanics define the experience: a radar that helps you anticipate upcoming obstacles, and the ability to switch between polygonal and wireframe views to reduce visual clutter. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and careful route planning. It feels like threading a needle at high speed, with a real sense of accomplishment when you clear a tough section.
