Play U.S. Championship V'Ball (Japan) Online
Control a team of blocky players, serve, bump, set, and spike the ball to outscore your opponent in this fast-paced volleyball game for NES.
U.S. Championship V'Ball came out for the NES in 1989, published by Nintendo. It was part of that wave of simple sports games that tried to capture the feel of an arcade experience at home, without a lot of frills or complicated rules. You got two teams, a court, and that was about it.
You control a team of two blocky players, moving them around the court to serve, bump, set, and spike the ball over the net. The main goal is just to outscore the computer or a second player, point by point. The signature mechanics are the exaggerated jumps for spikes and blocks, which have very specific timing, and the way the ball can sometimes fly in wild, unpredictable arcs if you don't position your player perfectly under it. The pacing is fast and the difficulty ramps up quickly, making every volley a tense scramble. It feels like a chaotic, slightly clumsy version of the real sport that's hard to put down once you get into a rhythm.
