Game Overview

Ugh! came out on the Amiga in 1992 from Blue Byte Software. It was part of that wave of early 90s games that tried something a little different, built around a single, quirky mechanic instead of a big story. You don't see many games where your main vehicle is a pedal-powered helicopter.

You control a caveman piloting that helicopter, and your job is to fly into each level, pick up another caveman, and carry him safely to the exit. The challenge comes from managing your pilot's stamina; you have to constantly pedal to stay airborne, and you'll crash if you get too tired. You replenish your energy by flying through bunches of fruit scattered around the levels. The flight itself has a satisfying, weighty physics to it, and you're always navigating tight caves, dodging dinosaurs and other enemies. It creates a tense, almost frantic pace as you balance your dwindling energy against the obstacles in your path. The whole experience feels like a precarious, exhausting workout.
