Uzu Keobukseon came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by a studio called Vic Tokai. It was one of those oddball titles that slipped onto the platform during a time when developers were willing to try almost anything, even if it meant adapting a Korean folk tale into a side-scrolling action game.
You control a young boy armed with a bow, navigating screen by screen through a mix of platforming and combat. Your main goal is to rescue your sister from a demon, which involves moving through villages, forests, and underground areas while fighting off enemies and avoiding environmental hazards. The bow combat is straightforward but requires careful aim, and you collect power-ups to improve your shots. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages. Playing it feels like piecing together an old, slightly cryptic story through action and exploration.
