V-Rally 99 on the N64 is one of those racers that feels way ahead of its time. The second you start sliding around muddy corners or fishtailing on gravel, you realize how much the physics actually matter—mess up your braking, and you’re in the trees. The weather isn’t just for show either; rain turns dirt into sludge, and night stages make you rely on your headlights more than you’d expect.
It’s got that classic late-90s arcade vibe but with just enough realism to keep you from just flooring it the whole time. The Japanese version (marked with the "J") runs smoother than some of the other regional releases, too.
