Game Overview

Van Helsing on the GBA is one of those games that nails the "pick up and slash" vibe. You start off with a crossbow that feels way more satisfying to shoot than it should—there's something about the way vampires explode into dust that never gets old. The levels are short but packed with werewolves lunging at you from the dark corners of Transylvania, and the controls are tight enough that you actually feel like a monster-hunting badass.

It’s not exactly deep—you won’t be solving puzzles or managing an inventory—but the combat’s got just enough weight to it. Swinging your sword has this nice crunch, and later weapons (like the repeating crossbow) make you feel overpowered in the best way. The pixel art holds up, too—lots of moody purples and blacks, with flickering torches that actually make the castles feel creepy.

If you’ve got a soft spot for GBA action games or just want to pretend you’re Hugh Jackman for 20 minutes, this one’s a solid choice. Just don’t expect a masterpiece—it’s pure, dumb monster-stabbing fun.
