Game Overview

I first played Virus on the Amiga back in 1987, published by Firebird Software. It was one of those early titles that really tried to push what the system could do visually, with its pseudo-3D landscapes and smooth scrolling. At the time, a lot of games were still figuring out how to use the Amiga's power, and Virus stood out for its ambitious presentation without being overly flashy.

You control a small ship tasked with clearing alien viruses from the surface of the Earth. The main objective is to fly over infected land, destroy the viruses, and reclaim the terrain before your energy runs out. The game uses a combination of thrust-based flight mechanics, realistic gravity that pulls your ship downward, and a scanner to locate enemy positions. The pacing is tense; you have to manage your fuel and shields carefully while hunting down fast-moving targets. It feels like a constant race against depletion, and successfully purging a screen brings a real sense of relief.
