VR Troopers on the Sega Genesis, released in 1995 by Sega, was one of those licensed games that tried to capture the spirit of the TV show. You control one of three Troopers, each with a basic move set of punches and kicks to fight through screen after screen of enemy robots. The main goal is straightforward: move from left to right, defeat everything that moves, and occasionally face a boss. The game incorporates a character switching mechanic, letting you swap between the Troopers to use their specific special attacks, and there are vehicle stages that break up the standard platforming action. The pacing is fast, but the difficulty can feel uneven, with some cheap enemy placements. It feels like a very standard, slightly clunky brawler that relies heavily on its license for appeal.
