Game Overview

Vroom is one of those old-school Amiga racing games that still feels surprisingly good to play. You pick between arcade-style handling or a more realistic sim mode, then tweak everything from transmission type to race length. I usually go for manual gears—it just feels right when you're weaving through those tight corners.

The tracks are full of little details: tunnels that briefly plunge you into darkness, steep hills that make your engine whine, and pit stops that actually matter if you push your car too hard. What got me at first were the side mirrors—they actually show real cars behind you, which is wild for a game this old. The mix of 3D and 2D graphics holds up, especially when you hit top speed and everything blurs past in a streak of color.

Two-player mode’s the real highlight, though. Grab a friend, set up a second Amiga, and suddenly you’re in a proper head-to-head race where every missed gear shift costs you. Just watch out for that hairpin turn on the mountain track—it’s brutal.
