Warehouse No. 18 is one of those weird little NES games that somehow sticks with you. You play as this guy sneaking through a Soviet-era warehouse, ducking behind crates while guards patrol in these stiff, robotic patterns. At first, it feels like a stripped-down Metal Gear—until you realize half the items you pick up are completely bizarre (why is there a giant fish in a box?).

The controls take a minute to get used to—your guy moves like he’s wearing lead boots—but once it clicks, there’s something satisfying about outsmarting the guards. The levels twist and turn in ways that make you double back, and the music has this tense, repetitive synth loop that somehow works. It’s janky, but in that way where you can tell the developers had a vision, even if the hardware fought them on it.

If you’re into oddball retro games with personality, this one’s worth digging up. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
