Wordtris came out on the Game Boy in 1991, published by Spectrum HoloByte. It was a clever twist on the falling block puzzle craze of the time, swapping colored squares for letters. While everyone else was stacking Tetris pieces, this game had you building words from the sky.
You control the orientation of each falling letter cluster, rotating them to spell words horizontally or vertically on the playfield. The main goal is to clear letters by completing words before the stack reaches the top. Key mechanics include using a bomb piece to erase troublesome letters and a wildcard tile that can stand in for any letter you need. The pace begins deceptively calm but quickly escalates into a frantic race against the rising tide of consonants and vowels. It feels like a mental sprint where every second counts.
